Day 2 started off with lots of food....and then a trip to see Lowe's Motor Speedway. After we saw the track we headed down the road to Hendrick Motor Sports. We did not get tour that we had from Joe Gibbs but we did get to see through the windows the crews working on the cars, motors and analyzing data on computers. Another one of Cary's dream jobs.
Next up was Rousch Fenway. After touring touring the showroom, we wanted to stop and get some 99 Carl Edwards gear for Ed but they were sold out. Bummer. Sorry Ed.
Last stop was the World of Outlaws headquarters. Cary isn't much of a dirt guy but it was still interesting to see how they run their organization and to see Ken Schrader's late model on the showroom floor that he is going to race the weekend of the PRI Show.
Back to the hotel to repack. BTW, we stayed in Concord at the Embassy Suites, really nice.
By 11:45 we were on the road again, this time to South Boston, VA. Funny how from San Marcos you drive 3 hours and you are still in Texas.
At 2:30 we arrived at South Boston Speedway...just in time to watch the cars being tucked back into the hauler for the night. Mark Davis, driver of the number 18 Camping World East series, shook the cars down to get a baseline for tomorrow. He was driving out as we were pulling in. The Nationwide guys decided to call it an early day after the cars were good and snow started falling. I picked up the phone and called my mom back in San Marcos. She said it was about 80.....it is COLD here.
Tomorrow, when we arrive at the track it is supposed to be 24 degrees. Fun.
Hopefully, tomorrow after the test we will be in a place with internet access to post pictures.
